Piano is a piano accompaniment generator: give it a chord progression and it writes the part a player would play. The left hand accompanies and the right hand carries the melody, the way the instrument actually works, with the sustain pedal written into the exported MIDI and moving with the harmony. In detail
What it actually does
Two hands, two jobs
Left hand and right hand, the way the instrument actually works. The left hand accompanies: bass, harmony and pulse. The right hand carries the melody on top. No third layer in between.
The root lands on beat one. Always.
Every chord gets its bass note on the downbeat, and that note is the chord root. The left hand is never missing from a chord and never harmonically wrong.
The pedal is part of the output
CC64 is written alongside the notes and travels with the drag-and-drop export. It is not something you add afterwards in the DAW.
The pedal follows harmony, not bar lines
It changes at every chord change, in any meter, rather than repeating the bar structure of whatever take the figure was recorded in.
A 3/4 figure plays in 4/4
Only the right hand extends to fill the extra beat. The left hand is never stretched, because its job is the harmonic anchor. The same rule holds for 5/4 and 12/8.
The melody keeps its order
A right hand recorded across four bars plays back in that order: what was at bar one arrives at bar one, even when the chords underneath were generated.
Optional start-bar shift
Move the melody’s entry, bar four’s material to bar one for instance, and the harmony is corrected automatically, without you editing a note.
Recorded presets, or generate one
The core of the library is played by hand: one MIDI file per pattern, with left hand, right hand and pedal on separate tracks. Press Generate and the engine builds new patterns from those performances, the same way Ostinato does, so a pattern that never existed before still sounds played.
Pop ballad through cinematic
The same engine covers a plain ballad accompaniment and something that sits under a cue. It is the figure that changes, not the rules.
Two faders and a switch
Left hand and right hand each get a level fader with mute and solo. Mute the left hand and the melody stands alone; mute the right and only the accompaniment is left. The pedal is a switch, on or off, because a sustain pedal is not a volume.
In Key, one click away
The In Key filter runs live over the finished notes: anything outside the key of your progression is pulled back into it, while the chord’s own notes stay untouched. Switch it off and you hear the raw figure.
